5 Years Retailing!

There is this idea of looking forward and counting the cost of a project before you start. When we bought our house we knew what we were getting into. We calculated the down payment and the mortgage and the extra payments that we might do so we can get our 30-year term to be a 20-year term. We counted the cost.

With a business you think "If we can get that equipment and that equipment and make this many sales, we will be profitable. and then we can hire someone to help." You put together a business plan and then you start. And suddenly you find yourself at 2AM washing dishes wondering if you will just skip the family reunion because you know you will just have to skip sleeping next week to be at the campout 2 days late. I never understood the cost. I don't think anyone can ever explain what a 100 hour week feels like. You have to go though it and then you know what it costs. As we have reached this five year mark my little family has been though a lot. Our second year of business was Covid. We had two boys since we signed our lease on our building. And as much stress and as much work and as much as it has cost us it has also been one of the best things to ever happen to us. I didn't know how to run a business when we started. I hardly knew how to make a sale at the farmer's market. But now my four girls know how to run sales and are great with customers, my wife is an amazing roaster, and I finally have an education on how to run a business. I still have a long way to go but I feel like we have a direction on what to do next.

As we reach this five year mark, I'm more excited about the business than I ever have been. I feel like I know what the cost is going to be to get to the next level. I'm thankful for all the amazing relationships we made with so many different kinds of people. From retired teachers that are traveling the world to astronauts that have stepped on the moon... to people that don't believe in that kind of thing! I feel like we are a part of the community in a small but very real way that I had not felt before. So as much as it has cost us it has been worth every penny. I just hope I can pay back a few of those pennies a lot faster these next few years!

Reflecting on these five years, I realize that every challenge, sacrifice, and late night has been a building block toward something greater than just a business—it's been about growth, community, and creating a legacy for my family. While there’s still a long road ahead, I feel ready for the next chapter, more determined than ever to make it count. We are always praying that we are having a positive impact in the community that God has put us in and that we can give Him the glory for holding us together. We don't know how well we do that but we do know that we can thank Him for blessing us for putting us here and at this time.

So here is to the next... o crap, I meant to say six years. we have been doing this for six years. Whatever. just... God bless and hopefully I write more updates. You should try some of our coffee by the way. Its so good!
Cheers!
